The day I have been waiting for since day one in America was finally upon us! I must say, halloween is now officially my favorite holiday of the year. No questions asked. The overall atmosphere everywhere was incredible.
So I went to work at 9AM and was surprised with the opportunity to carve my very first pumpkin. It looks so much easier than it actually is, even though our pumpkin was a bit smaller than the average one. We looked up a face for it online and I set to work. The entire thing took about 30 minutes to make, so not that long. I am more than proud of this, but a few hours later I realized that I am nothing compared to the people who make them every year.

I got to spend the day taking care of the two-year-old wearing his superman costume. He looked so cute in it that I just felt like taking him home with me and keeping him. I don't want to post any pictures since I'm trying to respect the family's privacy, but I do have one of him from behind, maybe it's not so bad? We met a couple of batmans and iron men (correct plurals, maybe?) and managed to keep the city out of any trouble. Job well done.
We spent the evening trick-or-treating with a family who in their words "take halloween very seriously". They dressed up as Star Wars characters, with princess Leia, Han Solo, a stormtooper, Darth Sidious and Jango Fett. It looked so cool and I am so jealous. So so so jealous. But if I thought their costumes were cool, their house was even better. They had a smoke machine on the front porch, a skeleton singing Thriller and 100lb pumpkins sitting on top of the stairs. Like most other houses, they also had ghosts hanging outside and RIP stones on the lawn.
I saw so many creative costumes on our round of trick-or-treating that it got me all hyped up for the entire evening. These people are so creative with the way they dress up their kids. Also the way they decorate the houses… just wow. Since it was so dark, I only managed to get a decent picture of two of the costumes, but I think these give a good idea on what the other ones may have looked like. Many people also dressed up their dogs with tiaras, tutus, butterfly wings that had strobe lights and things like that. The best costume I saw? Probably wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tube man for the fact that he was flailing around the streets.

So my journey continues with only 30 days to go until my flight back home. I feel like time is running out and I still have a million things to do. One thing is certain though, next halloween I am flying to the states just so I can experience this again. It's something that I will remember for a very, very long time.
